Hometown Hero Award:

Each year, in conjunction with our Customer Appreciation Day, we present a Hometown Hero Award to an individual living within our service area who has made outstanding contributions to his or her community.

2010 marked our 6th Hometown Hero celebration. We presented awards to two special members of the community - Midge Gould of Chester and Bertha Deveau of Sandown. Both recipients were nominated by the Board of Selectmen in their respective towns. Please help us in congratulating these true Hometown Heroes.

Midge Gould was recognized for her contributions of over 40 years in the Chester community. From Girl Scout leader to various other teaching roles including summer vacation bible school, kindergarten teacher, and volunteer at the Chester Elementary School. She also served on the Chester School Board, and helped out at all the fundraisers for the Chester Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. For the past 5 years, she has been serving the Town as a volunteer Welfare Officer and for the past 40+ years has served the Town as a ballot clerk.  

Bertha Deveau was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Sandown Historical Society and Train Museum. She is also a member of the 60+ club in her community, and volunteers her time with hospice. In the past, Ms. Deveau has also been a member of the Old Home Day Committee, Grange, 4-H and the PTA. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.

Each year GSC honors a resident within its serving area with the Hometown Hero Award. In 2010 we awarded Bertha Deveau of Sandown (top) and Midge Gould of Chester (bottom)
