Q: What is FiberNet?
FiberNet is our new phone and ultra high speed Internet service that utilizes fiber optic technology - a cutting edge method of providing our customers with vastly higher bandwidth and more robust services.
Q: What is Fiber Optic Technology?
A: Fiber Optic Technology is the delivery of a communications signal over a 100% optical fiber network. It connects your home or business directly to fiber optic cables, giving you virtually unlimited bandwidth capability. It is the best technology on the market today.
Fiber is faster; it provides the fastest Internet connection speeds due to its higher bandwidth capacity. Plus it is superior in reliability and quality. Fiber offers the most reliable Internet service - no dropped connections or losing speed at peak hours like cable. It also offers the clearest phone calls - no dropped calls or static to disrupt conversations like other phone services.
Q. What is optical fiber?
A. Optical fiber is a hair-thin strand of glass that uses light instead of electricity to carry a signal. It is unique because it can carry high bandwidth signals over long distances without signal or speed degradation.
Q: Why is Granite State Communications investing in FiberNet?
A: We're investing in fiber technology because it is a state-of-the-art technology that offers customers the highest quality of services on the market:

Q. How much bandwidth does fiber technology offer?
A:Fiber optic technology has the capability to transport virtually unlimited bandwidth, which serves today's high demand for high speed Internet as well as advanced applications for tomorrow. Our FiberNet packages currently offer speeds up to 50 Mbps, and thanks to the unique flexibility of optical fiber, we can add capacity as needed without customers having to change a thing in their day to day routine.
Q. Why do we need all that bandwidth?
A. As the world moves toward vastly higher bandwidth applications, a FiberNet connection makes a variety of online activities easier and more enjoyable:
- Downloading feature-length movies .
- Uploading home movies to into emails or web pages like Facebook.
- Using consumer electronic devices that connect TVs to the Internet.
- Many others we haven't even dreamed of yet.
Q. Will switching to fiber technology increase the cost of my Internet or phone service?
A. Our upgrade to fiber technology will NOT increase the cost of your current telephone and Internet services, so you can still enjoy high speed Internet for as little as $35 per month or long distance calling for as little as $19.95 per month.
Q. Does upgrading to fiber technology add monetary value to my home?
A. A recent study by RVA Market Research, surveyed home buyers and developers. It found that fiber-to-the-home adds about $5,000 to the purchase price of an individual dwelling.
Q: What is the installation schedule?
A: We began the process of installing fiber optic cable to homes and businesses in select new developments in Weare, Chester, and Sandown in 2007. Service activation is occurring in phases as homes and businesses are constructed.
We are now working aggressively on a broad rollout to the rest of our service area. Network construction will happen in phases with a goal to have all customers using the fiber network over the next several years.
