Spam – there’s no question it continues to annoy and frustrate all of us. With all its varying forms, spam continues to increase despite our best efforts to block it, particularly phishing schemes (emails claiming to be from GSC and other reputable businesses asking you to confirm personal information or click on a link). Some of these emails falsely reference deactivation of customer email accounts unless the recipient clicks on the provided link. (But please note that GSC will never contact you by email with a message or request of this kind, and we will never ask you to confirm confidential information by email.)

Please be assured, if you have a GSC email account, a large category of spam is blocked before it ever reaches your inbox through our Edgewave Spam and Virus Prevention system. Our filter includes messaging threat detection combined with multiple antivirus engines to defend against advanced threats such as phishing, malware, and spam. As soon as a threat is identified, our analysts immediately create and synchronize a specific threat protection rule to block it.  On average, 200 new rules are created every day to stop emerging threats, with nearly 30,000 rules active at any given time. Despite this, there is still a large amount of spam where the sender and the body of the message changes slightly each time, making it extremely difficult to block ahead of time. We encourage all of our customers to be on the lookout for these emails and to notify us when they see them.

If you use Outlook for your email program, the easiest way  to report spam is to download our Report Spam Plug-in for Outlook. With this tool, you can simply click a button in the instance any spam leaks through.

Click here to install the Report Spam Plug-in for Outlook.

If you use our Zimbra webmail interface, you can click the “spam” button located at the top of your mailbox, just right of the “delete” button.

For all other email programs, you can report spam by sending the email as an attachment.  Create a new email message. Address it to spam@edgewave.com. Click on the “Attach” button, select one or more mail items, and send the email. Spam samples sent to spam@edgewave.com as attachments will be automatically processed by EdgeWave’s spam reviewing team. You won’t receive any feedback for emails sent, but rest assured they will be evaluated to make our filtering as accurate as possible. For detailed instructions click here.

As always, we stress the following when dealing with suspicious email: If you ever doubt a message is genuine, verify the company’s phone number and contact them directly. NEVER reply to an email, click on links, or open any attachments if you’re questioning the email’s authenticity.

GSC is always looking out for the security of our customers. We want to make sure your account stays safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us by phone at 529-9931 or send an email to help@mygsc.com.
